MANILA, Philippines – The death toll from typhoon “Ondoy” has reached 246, the National Disaster Coordinating Council reported today (Sept. 29).
As of 3 p.m., NDCC chairman and Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro said 105 casualties were recorded in the Calabarzon region, 101 in National Capital Region, 37 in Region 3 and three in the Cordillera Administrative Region.
NDCC also recorded 38 missing people as of this posting.
Damage to property was placed at P4.6 billion, while the cost of assistance was estimated at P9 million, Teodoro said.
The NDCC also reported that more than 500,000 people were affected by massive flooding, with some 300,000 currently staying in evacuation centers. - By Dennis Carcamo (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)
